Murphy the pug
A Tribute to Seniors
I’m posting this on Murphy’s blog. He gave me permission. There is a remarkable woman on my pug board that takes in all the pugs that people put their noses up at. “Give me your tired your poor....”
She took in John Ott in 2005 with another older pug, Thalia. John Ott a brave senior fawn pug whose had a rough life. Ellen of the Tall Grass posts the most wonderful stories about him and the rest of her gang. Here is a post from yesterday:
“No one, now alive on this planet, knows how old John Ott really is. His gait is far from spry, he is blind and has been so for since before I met him. But no one has ever quantified his courage or devotion to duty. Last night was cold, raw cold, and rather than sleep on the big bed I chose to sleep wrapped up in an old quilt on the love seat in the front room. A few of the pugs slept beside me, under an edge of the quilt. But John Ott not finding me asleep in bed beside his thick quilt covered cushion, limped and staggered out to be with me. And I found him wrapped inside my quilt, asleep at my feet this morning. A loving gesture from a brave dog. Think senior, think rescue.”
In rescue we find so many seniors are cast aside when they are beyond their “prime.” I think the senior years are the prime time. They are loyal and loving, calm and comforting. Think about offering a retirement home to a loving senior pug.

Amen to seniors. Our senior Pug rescue Marty has been a wonderful addition to our household. Please everyone when your thinking about adding to your canine family...think rescue! These little guys and girls deserve a loving place to spend their “golden years”!
